The American Real Estate Society (ARES), founded in 1985, is an association of real estate thought leaders. Members are drawn from academia and the profession at large, both in the United States and internationally. The Society is dedicated to producing and disseminating knowledge related to real estate decision making and the functioning of real estate markets.

The ARES journals provide relevant and timely research of interest to real estate academics and practitioners worldwide. The Society publishes five journals: Journal of Real Estate Research (JRER), Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management (JREPM), Journal of Real Estate Literature (JREL), Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education (JREPE) and Journal of Housing Research (JHR). In addition, members receive the semi-annual ARES Newsletter and the ARES Monograph, which are published periodically on real estate research topics of keen interest.

Annual meetings are held each spring, typically alternating between east- and west-coast locations. The ARES Annual Meeting provides a stimulating opportunity for real estate thought leaders to come together to share ideas. To serve the industry, ARES gathers information from members and non-members to create a job board that provides current listings of academic and senior research positions world-wide.

Membership in ARES is open to anyone with an interest in real estate research. This includes academics in a wide variety of fields such as economics, finance, marketing, geography and other areas, as well as professional researchers, analysts, appraisers and others. Institutions that engage in real estate-related businesses will find a sponsorship to ARES to be a rewarding experience.
